VeloViewer WorldTour – Live App – Location Sharing

One of the many really useful features of the Live app is the ability to view the location of all the other members of your organisation that are actively using the Live app.  This can be a race organiser being able to see the publicity caravan, safety officer, main race vehicles, doctors/ambulance and broom wagon. Or teams being able to see the main team cars but also the soigneur locations and where the team bus has parked.  The UK Police also use VeloViewer to view all of the police and marshal motorbike locations to support the rolling road closure effectively.

In order for the location sharing to work correctly, it requires the following:

  1. Each Live app user wanting to share their location needs to enable the “Share location” setting, also providing the text to be displayed on the map next to their location.
  2. The “Location frequency” also needs to be set, ideally at 1 second, meaning their location will be sent to the VeloViewer servers every second.

The locations of the other Live app users in your organisation that are sharing their location will then be shown on the map:

  • Last location < 5 minutes old: name shown with a green background.
  • Last location > 5 minutes and < hide user time: name shown with grey background.
  • Last location > hide user time: not shown on map.
