VeloViewer WorldTour – UCI Commissaires

UCI Commissaires have their own, dedicated Race Hub covering women’s and men’s .1, .PRO and WT races as well as international championships.

Race routes will become available in the Race Hub as soon as the Race Organiser (if they are using VeloViewer) have provided the route information and are ready for it to be shared with the other stakeholders.  If the Race Organiser involved is not using VeloViewer then we usually get the GPX files provided via the teams doing the race that are using VeloViewer, but sometimes by the UCI commissaire if they are able to get the files.  Just email them to worldtour@veloviewer.com if you have the GPX files for a race that doesn’t yet have its route available in the Race Hub.

Commissaires are able to view the race routes to help with their pre-race preparations. They are able to add additional waymarkers (perhaps to help with highlighting areas where it isn’t safe to let vehicles pass the riders) which they and their Commissaire colleagues will see in the Live app during the race. Commissaires can also look at the feed zone and sprint locations as well as checking StreetView for the final kilometres to look for safety concerns that might need to be addressed ahead of the race.

During the race itself, the Live app can be used to see the upcoming course along with the Essential, Information and Hazard waymarkers. it is recommended to have the Live app running at all times so your location can be shared with your colleagues during the race and you are able to add Incident and Near Miss waymarkers as quickly as possible without distracting you from your other duties.  Device recommendations for using the Live app are provided in the Live App overview.

Note: You will only see the location of users who belong to your organisation (i.e. the UCI Commissaires Race Hub). At this stage you will not see the location of users from the Race Organisation or the teams.

Adding Incident / Near miss waymarkers

Incident and near miss waymarkers are available to UCI Commissaires and the Race Organiser and should be added to mark locations along the race route as accurately as possible. These are then imported into the UGent Race Incident Database and used at the weekly Case Management Committee meeting.

In order to add waymarkers you will need the Live app running in “Recon mode“. You will then see a “✚ Waymarker” button on the right of the app. When you press this, the add waymarker popup will be displayed with the “Incident” waymarker type already selected. If time is short, just press the “Save” button and the Incident waymarker will be saved at the location you were at when you pressed the “✚” button. When you have more time available, you can scroll the waymarker list down to find the waymarker, tap it to re-open the popup and type in any useful information.  Alternatively, the additional notes can be added to those waymarkers using the Race Hub after the race on your laptop.

Note: The maximum length for the notes is 250 characters.
