VeloViewer WorldTour – Live App – Race Control Centre

Live app use in a fixed location during a race:

  • Race Organiser: Usually in an office coordinating the race vehicles alongside the police.
  • Team: To allow a coach or DS to follow the race remotely.
  • UCI: VAR commissaire can use the “track by user” feature to have the Live app acting as if you were sat with one of your colleagues in a race vehicle.

Because the Live app will not need to know your own location then it can be run on a laptop as well as on a tablet. Whatever device you have available.

In the settings, enable the “Location frequency” to 1 second but no need to check the box to share your own location. You will then be able to see the live locations of your colleagues belonging to the same organisation/Race Hub.

Track by user

You should now be seeing your colleagues’ names moving along the race route with a green background.  Tap/click on one of the names and you will be shown a pop up listing your colleagues:

  • Check the “Track by user” box at the top.
  • Check the round radio button to the left of the person you would like to track.
  • Close the popup with the big x button.

Also make sure the map zoom is set to something other than “Full” (e.g. 2 km) and the map will zoom into that distance of the route, starting at your colleague’s position.

Updating waymarkers

A good use of the Live app is the VAR UCI commissaire. They can be viewing the race with the Live app tracking one of their colleagues in the race convoy.  If there is a race incident, ideally the commissaire in the car will add/save the Incident/Near Miss waymarker. They might not have time to see or add other information like the riders involved or the cause of the incident.  After a max of 1 minute, the Incident waymarker added by the in-race commissaire will appear in the Live app for the VAR commissaire to see and the VAR could add the additional notes based on what they have seen on the TV.
