With the third edition of the Tour de France (TDF) Femmes almost complete, at VeloViewer throughout the Tour we have been working with teams to ensure they have the data they need to maximise preparation, race tactics and safety.
For Lidl-Trek’s Assistant DS at the Tour, and Head Director of the women’s team, Ina-Yoko Teutenberg, the VeloViewer WorldTour App plays an integral role in the team and individual rider preparation, as well as on race day. Ina gave us an insight into the run up to this year’s Tour.
How does the platform assist you in your role as a DS?
This is my 3rd year using VeloViewer with Lidl-Trek and we use it for each of the WorldTour races. It helps to provide a good overview of the races and prep for them when they’re far from home, as we have the detail of each stage to help plan and visualise the route.
How does VeloViewer help the team as a whole and the individual riders in the preparation for the TDF Femme?
Like every race, VeloViewer helps us be ready for the stages ahead. Riders for sure use the platform a lot to have a good overview of what lies ahead, target some stages, and come mentally a bit more ready to the races than they would without it.
Do you feel this also improves team safety?
Yes, riders know when certain tricky points are coming up or dangerous downhills. The information is invaluable as it means by using the software often crashes can be avoided.
Is there a particular stage you think will bring more challenges?
Based on the TDF Femmes in the past two years, it is certainly a challenging race. With tricky flat stages early on riders will be nervous to avoid crashes. The last weekend will be extremely hard, and like the Giro race, will not be decided till the last KM.
I am most definitely looking forward to the iconic finish on Alpe d’Huez.
Grand Finale at the Alpe d’Huez
With the TDF Femmes 2024 culminating on the Alpe d’Huez it will definitely be a highly anticipated climb, giving riders a final challenge in this seven day race. Our VeloViewer graphics clearly show the intensity of the 14.4km climb with a maximum elevation of 11.8% and an elevation gain of 1127 metres.
